چکیده
* This work is supported by DOE SBIR No. DE-FG03-96ER82156. Abstract Performance of a single-section, S-band, Plane-WaveTransformer (PWT) photoelectron linac is characterized by a high (multi-ampere) average current required for advanced applications such as Compton x-ray sources and linear collider. Single bunch dynamics and multi-bunch beam loading effects are considered. Threshold current for regenerative BBU is calculated using a generalized Panofsky-Wenzel theorem, including such effects as the Lorentz’ force component of the transverse wake field, inhomogeneous solenoidal focusing field, high relative energy gain and interaction with the waves of different polarizations. Stimulated regenerative BBU is considered for cumulative BBU.

A Polarized Electron PWT Photoinjector for the ILC
In order to provide maximum physics benefits, the International Linear Collider (ILC) must have a highly polarized electron beam with a low emittance. High electron spin -polarization (>85%) is attainable with a modern GaAs photocathode illuminated by a circularly polarized laser. Low emittance is achievable with an rf photoinjector, and can be further improved with a round-to-flat beam transfo...

A photoinjector based on a multi-cell plane wave transformer accelerating structure has been commissioned at the UCLA Department of Physics’ PEGASUS Laboratory. Design and construction of the novel structure have been previously reported [J. Rosenzweig, et al. متن کاملA Permanent-magnet Focused X-band Photoinjector
A Plane-Wave-Transformer (PWT), integrated photoinjector operating at an X-band frequency (8.547GHz) is being developed by DULY Research Inc. in a DOE SBIR project, in collaboration with UCLA and UCD/ILSA. Upward frequency scaling from an S-band PWT photoinjector would result in a compact photoinjector with unprecedented brightness. Challenging technological innovations are required at X-band. ...
متن کاملA Polarized Electron RF Photoinjector Using the Plane-Wave-Transformer (PWT) Design
Polarized electron beams are now in routine use in particle accelerators for nuclear and high energy physics experiments. These beams are presently produced by dc-biased photoelectron sources combined with rf chopping and bunching systems with inherently high transverse emittances. Low emittances can be produced with an rf gun, but the vacuum environment has until now been considered too harsh ...
متن کاملRF Design of the UCLA/INFN Hybrid SW/TW Photoinjector
With increasing demand for high brightness, low emittance beams for use with freeelectron lasers, Compton scattering systems and wake-field accelerator experiments, stringent requirements have been placed on the design and operation of the 1.6 cell photoinjector. The proposed hybrid photoinjector combines the BNL/UCLA/SLAC style 1.5/1.6 cell standing wave gun with a traveling wave accelerator. ...
